What a busy and wonderful first two weeks of school it has been! Even though I have been off from “work” all summer, I still spend the majority of it getting ready for the next year--so the anticipation really builds and I am so excited to meet my students!
I have learned all the names of my students in my morning session but I’m still working on knowing the students in my afternoon sessions. They are Ms. Henschel’s homeroom. We are a team, she teaches the students Language Arts (Reading, writing, grammar). I teach Social Studies, Science, Health and Math.
The routines of the classroom are taught for the same reasons you may have rules in your home. Many of our procedures are for safety concerns, such as how to come into the classroom. I have children that want to run in and glide on their knees onto my rug (perhaps from that soccer commercial where the man glides around with a bag of Doritos?). At any rate, this is not acceptable in the classroom, so we practice how to walk in.
As you might imagine, there are countless procedures that we must teach them and remind them of throughout the year in order to keep everyone safe and maximize our learning time.
It is in this way that we hope to have an orderly classroom where everyone can learn.
I hope you are all planning on attending our curriculum night this Tuesday.
Please refer back to the letter that was sent via email. If you did not see it, I have attached a copy of that letter here.
Sincerely,
Ms. Mitchell
