Dear Parents,

Another awesome week in 2nd grade!

Notes for this week:

Tonight, is the School dance. There are two sessions: 5:30-7:00 and 7:30-9:00. Come join your peers for a fun time “under the sea”!

As a reminder, please remember to label all coats, hats, jackets, and gloves.

*Signed papers were sent home. Please sign and return the slip while keeping all papers attached.

*In Math 2.1 (on)- we are currently in UNIT 3: Understanding Measurement, Length, and Time. This past week we focused on making and analyzing line plots. Students learned that line plots are another way to measure and show data. Line plots show the frequency of items occurring. Students created line plots with our heights (in inches and centimeters) and through a dice rolling game. We also worked on answering word problems using the CUBE strategy that helps students slow down and focus on what the question requires. We have practiced questions that require students to find a missing addend.

We will have our UNIT 3 assessment on Wednesday, January 30th. We will be reviewing skills on Monday and Tuesday of next week.

- *Math 2.2 (Adv)- This past week we practiced rounding to the nearest 10 and to the nearest 100. Students were also introduced to properties of addition. Specifically, the commutative, identity and associative properties of addition. Students are learning how these properties help us add mentally. Students also completed assignments on Google Classroom and Padlet. We will continue next week with estimating sums and using models to add (regrouping).

*Science-EROSION PBL (project based learning) – This past week we wrapped up our erosion PBL with student presentations. The students have worked hard on their projects and were eager to share their knowledge with their peers. They did a great job! We will be starting our Civil Rights unit next week. Please refer to our website for additional information about what we will be learning.

*Reading- In reading, we have worked on retelling fables and folktales, as well as understanding the moral within the story.

*Writing/Grammar- In writing, we have finished our gripping narrative unit and have taken our post test. We will begin our opinion writing unit next week!

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns,

Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Barbra Mitchell and Rebecca Henschel
