Dear Parents,
We have had another great week in 2nd grade!
Notes for this next week (it will be a fun one!):
· No homework all week!

· Tuesday December 18th – 2nd grade will be visiting 4th grade on their entrepreneur day to buy goodies and support our 4th graders. Please refer to the handout students received today if you have any questions. (Students are encouraged to bring money – less than $20 – to purchase from 4th grade).
· Class party day on Wednesday, December 19th (See email from RC for more information!)
· Thursday December 20th- last day before holiday; PJs day! All students are invited to come to school in comfy & cozy PJs for a fun last day together!
· No school December 1st- January 6th. Students return January 7th.
FAST FACTS:
After Winter Break: we will begin subtraction. It is a good idea to start practicing now. A great strategy is thinking of a related addition fact you know. EX: 10-7=____ , Think of ___+7=10
*Math 2.1 (on)- UNDERSTANDING MEASUREMENT, LENGTH, & TIME
Next week we will be start learning about measurement in inches and centimeters. We will learn about the difference in the two measurement systems.
- Over the weekend, please continue to practice telling time on digital and analog clocks to the nearest 5 minutes (1:00, 1:05, 1:10, 1:15, 1:20…) and make special note of how the hour hand gets closer to the next hour. Times like 2:55 are especially tricky as the hour hand is so close to the 3.
*Math 2.2 (Adv)- Unit 6- DEVELOPING MULTIPLICATION
**** Unit 6 Test will be on Monday and Tuesday ****
(check our website for standards covered)
Students will be given an opportunity to review and ask questions before the test each day.
*Science-FORCES & MOTION
We are working diligently on our Erosion PBL. Students have been divided into teams and are planning how we will represent the problem of “Shakerag losing ground”, with the solution we have devised. Some students will make a model, PowerPoint, book, video or poster to represent the problem and solution. Ask your child what solution their team has determined will work to slow or stop the erosion. Why do they believe this will be the best solution?
*Reading- This week we focused on learning how characters change within their stories. We also continued learning about character traits and how to use evidence from a text to describe a character.
*Writing/Grammar- We have continued working on our “Gripping Narratives.” Students are working on elaborating in their story (for example, explaining an action in detail). Students are also working on revising/editing their work, and some are proudly posting their stories on Seesaw!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Barbra Mitchell and Rebecca Henschel
